Hey there,
I'm searching for info on my Grandfather that died in battle in approx 1944. I dont have much info on him as my father never had the pleasure of meeting him and all we have is a letter he sent him when he was born.
At the top of the letter it says
6350509 ‘C’ Company, 5.T.R.W.K regiment
I was hoping someone in the know could clarify exactly what reg this is and where abouts they would have been in approx sept 1944.
My parents believe he was in a parachute regiment.
His name was Michael Ryan
Thank you
Ryan

Hi
He was in the Royal West Kent Regiment, C Company of the 5th Battalion I reckon.
There is a museum that should help:
http://www.museum.maidstone.gov.uk/queensown/
You can obtain his detailed sevice history from the MOD which will tell you his movements.
No sign of him on www.cwgc.org though.
Regards
Pete

Hey everyone thanks for the reply
His forename was Michael Pretty sure his middle name was Joseph Surname was Ryan
I have information from the AAC to say that he transferred into the AAC but unfortunately the record has no date. However it must have been post 1942.
There is a record of a MJ Ryan doing a para troopers course with the AAC however the service number differs although the guy from the AAC told me they are alike. The service number is 6335683
He was born in Waterford, The Republic of Ireland. I dont have any details of his address sorry.
Casalguidi: May I ask how your able to check the service roll from ? Pete: Whats Geoffs search engine?
Thanks guys
Ryan

Hi,
Grandarog: I just did the same thing. Went to the same website and questioned his nationality but theres too much there that doesnt add up. Especially the Canadian part lol. Thankyou for your help though.
Casalguidi: He transfered under his number 6350509 and it says he went from RWK to AAC but doesnt say when. The guy from the Airborne Assult - Duxford that emailed me with the info said it was possible his number changed or maybe it was a transcription error. His name was definetly Michael Ryan and he signed the letter so also.
We had believed that he died in Arnhem but he is not on the roll for service in Arnhem. I am beginning to think he might'n have died in the war at all. Is there any way I search for info on him if he didnt die in the war, other than the MoD which im in the process of filling out.
Thanks guys
Ryan

Hey,
I have emailed my dad and asked him a ton of questions and also about the content of the letter so I should get a reply tommorow as they are in Australia.
I think Michael was mid to late twenties in 1942 so he was born around 1914 - 1919 (roughly)
I just want to thank everyone for all there help.
I'll post any new info as I get it
Cheers
Ryan
