Hi Doch

Was mother Margaret's surname KANE? If so, more children showing for them in Glasgow on IGI, apart from Margaret and Ann that you have already in 1871:

1. MARGARET KELLY Birth: 03 FEB 1867 High Church, Glasgow
2. ANN KELLY Birth: 16 JAN 1869 Central District, Glasgow
3. EDWARD KELLY Birth: 23 JUN 1871 High Church, Glasgow
4. MICHAEL KELLY Birth: 01 JUN 1873 High Church, Glasgow
5. WILLIAM KELLYBirth: 01 JUN 1873 High Church, Glasgow

Not sure if this will help for 1881....

                                                  margarets maiden name was kane.

i have already seen that on igi. i tried also to find ellens death cert on s.p. but no joy. she married my g/grandfather james king in 1885 in glasgow and both parents are still living at that time.

Hi Doch

Have you looked at the death of a Helen King/Kelly who died in 1902 in Dennistoun Glasgow. Age at death shows as 35 which would fit for your Ellen.

Sorry Doch, missed your last posts. The 1881 entry came from Ancestry. 1891 and after Ellen's marriage, they look to be living a few doors down:

James King 27, labourer b. Glasgow
Ellen King 26, b. Armagh, Ireland
Sarah King 8
James King 6
Edward King 4
John King 2
Patrick King 1months

Address: 42 Middleton Place, Dennistoun

A few Kelly's from Armagh living in Middleton Road in 1891:

I am wondering whether this could be Ellen's paternal uncle:

John Kelly 56, lab. b. Armagh Ireland
Margaret Kelly 54 b. Armagh Ireland
Annie Kelly 21 b. Glasgow
Edward Kelly 19 b. Glasgow
Lizzie Kelly 15 b. Glasgow

Address: 50 Middleton Place, Dennistoun

And perhaps John, Ellen's brother, at the same address as the above family:

Robt McCandlish 31, gen lab. b. Glasgow
Patrick McCandlish 8 b. Glasgow
John Kelly 23 (relationship not clear from the transcipt) general lab. b. Armagh Ireland

Address: 50 Middleton Place, Dennistoun

Can't easily see Ellen's parents though  Undecided

Mmmm...looking at the names of the children for John and Margaret in the household in 1891, could John be Edward?

i still cant find ellens death cert on s.p. james also died in 1902. my mother tells me that she heard of two family members that died within days of each other,i wonder if its james and ellen ? james died 23rd jan 1902.

Are you searching for her death under ELLEN? The index shows as HELEN with the other details I gave = Helen King/Kelly who died in 1902 in Dennistoun Glasgow. Age at death shows as 35

hi monica.

i have ellens death cert now. i was using h instead of H. she died on the 11 feb 1902 of natural causes. so there was only a few days between her and james dying. now the frustrating part, trying to find which part of armagh hellen was born.

thanks for your time and patience.

                                good luck.doch.

That's great Doch - glad you got there  Smiley

Helen's birth should be just after the start of official registration in Ireland (1864). Why don't you ask for help on the Armagh board trying to find the references for the entry and perhaps look to order it?
