Hi Weed
If you contact the local council (0141 840 3504 or 0141 852 5979) they will be able to tell you as they run the cem and have all the records BUT be warned they do charge £26 +VAT per 30 mins of looking!
Steep!

Is there any way of knowing where a lair is in the cemetery without asking for a search? I don't mind going over one weekend for Weed to see if there a headstone. I have not been in Hawkend cemetery, but I do know it is a large cemetery so unless I knew where to look, I think it would be hopeless.
Thanks Murphyz

Hi Murphy
Only if you get lucky and there's someone willing on the gatehouse to show you fraid. It is indeed a vast place and needle in haystack without a map.
Fraid the council have this one pinned down. Daylight robbery I think personally!

Thanks Anne, Murphyz for your help. I hope in the new year to visit my sister-in-law who lives in Paisley so I will try to visit the Cemetry while up there. I have been luckier with my English ancestors. I have been able to visit the church where my great grandparents were married and buried. I was lucky to speak to some one who knew my great uncle but no gravestones they couldn't afford one thanks for taking the time to reply to my request Weed

Hi Weed,
I visited Hawkhead Cemetery during the summer with my Aunt. She was looking for her ancestors who were buried there. Sadly we didnt find a grave, and as has been mentioned by Ann, it was very much like looking for a needle in a haystack without a map. Its a huge and very well maintained cemetery.
Best wishes Hazel

Hi Hazel thanks for the information it is nice to know the cemetery is well looked after especially when you read about some that are not and are vandalized Edna

I know this sounds ghoulish but check out the obits in the Paisley Daily Express (is online) before you come for funerals on the day you are intending to visit. There will be someone def on duty that date at the gatehouse cos they have to be to see them in as it were.
It is well looked after and they will know where folks are - is catching them is is the trick and they are very helpful when you do- otherwise the local council cash in.
Shame in some ways my mum is retired (tho she very much derves the rest cos she used to work for them) - always way tho! she retired after I started looking! sod's law!
