Hi there, I am looking for info on John Purves and his Wife Mary Lauder. I know very little at this point, but they married in Dec. 1882 in what I think says Duns Chapel? They had a Daughter named Mary Lauder Purves who Married Joseph White.
Thanks
J

Hi Jeff
What sort of info were you looking for?
Their marriage certificate can be viewed for a small fee on Scotland's People, the offical Scottish BMD site. http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
They married 1882 in Duns, Berwickshire. The certificate with give names of both sets of parents, and their normal residence, as well as ages and religious denomination, and whether either bride or groom had been married before.
You should be able to trace them in the census records which may tell you if they had any other children.

Just to add there is a possible death for Mary Lauder in 1937, aged 82.

Wow,
thank you for the info and so fast!
I did go to Sctlands people last night for the first time. I found Mary Lauder Purves's Birth info. It is hand written though and very hard to read. I wonder if they will ever digitize these records? I have had 5 people look at it trying to decipher a few of the things.
From what I gather it says something like " chapel Duns"? Or Chaptes. There is also John Purves's proffesion which is amazing !! I just can't make it out. Plus his Dad is mentioned, though I can not figure out if it is Andrew, Andreas or none of the above.
That is really interesting about the possible death. Perhaps that is my Great Grandmother you found!
It is amazing that a year ago , no one in the family new anything about anyone. After hundreds of hours I am really getting stuff. Probably the most interesting and rewarding thing I have ever undertaken.

If you are still having trouble desiphering the birth certificate you should try posting the relevant bits on here, there is a whole section of Rootschat devoted to this stuff! Just make sure you put a link to this thread so that people know what info you already have.

Hi Ev
Jeff has posted part of the problematic image on the Decipher board www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,415820.0.html
Monica
Added: Take it back! It's to do with a child's birth not the actual marriag entry
