Hi Folks,

I really need some help here. I have come up against this brickwall time and time again.

I am looking to find out info on my 4x Gt Grandparents. The only info i have is that they were in Sileby at around 1792. He was called William Pickard and he married (i think) Mary Farquhar, who came from Strichen in Aberdeenshire Scotland.

They had 3 children. Mary born 31/10/1792, James born 2/5/1802 and William born 9/3/1805.

William (JNR) and James ended up in Aberdeenshire where they married local girls. I have no idea if their sister  Mary came as well. What i would love to know is any info on the parents William and Mary. I have found no marraige or death certificates for them. I don't know if William was Scottish or if he did come from Sileby. It is strange how a Scottish girl from a remote village in Aberdeenshire ended up in Sileby. The only info on William (1805) marraige certificate is that his father was a soldier.

Would there have been a chance of William being in the 17th Foot regiment of Leicstershire? I would be chuffed if anyone could help me.

Greeting's & Welcome...Ann.

The Royal Leicestershire Regiment was raised in 1688.
In 1777
It was awarded the unbroken Laurel Wreath emblem for its bravery at the Battle of PRINCETOWN
In the American War of Independence. In 1825 the Regiment was awarded the Honour of wearing the insignia of the Royal Tiger superimposed with the word HINDOOSTAN, in recognition of its exemplary service and conduct during its campaigning and long tour in India from 1804-1823.
Since that time

The Regiment was always proudly called "The Tigers".

I'll leave it up to you to decide if he enlisted. ?

So….Who was this Mary Pickard then ? …..

There is a guy on the Rootsweb mailing list for Warwickshire who is a Pickard may be worth popping there and getting his email addy and sending him a mail

Hi Anne,i have a book with parish regs for Sileby
baptisms 1765-1812
burials 1765-1812
burials 1843-1846
Havent got time to do it tonight but would you like me to list all the Pickard entries for you?

There is a William pickard burial on jan 12th 1806
Baptism of a william in march 1806 parents mary and the LATE william pickard.
Could this be your william?

Hi Lushbrown,

I just saw your post to me today. Yes i think the William Pickard burial in Jan 1806 is my 4x Gt Grandfather.

Could you send me the info you have on Pickards in Sileby? I would be very grateful, as i had come up against a brick wall with William. He would have been married to a Mary Farquhar at the time of his death.

Hopefully the brick wall will come down
