Hello...
I hope I am posting in the correct area? [Apologies if not]
I am looking for any information on the following person [or any tips to for researching]:
Valerie Mewes [Also known as Vicki Martin]
Born in 1931
Died in 1955
Worked as a model and at Murrays Cabaret Club in Soho
Was friends with Ruth Ellis & Stephen Ward
Appeared in the 1952 film 'It Started in Paradise'
Died in a car crash in Maidenhead - Car driven by the author Terence Robertson
Would also be intersted in hearing about Ruby Lloyd who ran a club in Mayfair.

Hello there and welcome to Rootschat.
Not sure what info you already have but here goes...
Valerie Mewes born in Staines,Middx in Sept 1/4 of 1931.
Mothers maiden name Reynolds.There are 3 others(younger) with that combination of surname and mothers maiden name whom I won't mention in case they are still alive.
The parents appear to be John Mewes and Margaret A Reynolds who married in Staines only just before her birth in June 1/4 of 1931.

Quite a shock to see that name come up!!
I was in the same class as Valerie at Ashford County Grammer School.
When the news of her death appeared on the news, none of her class mates knew that Vicki Martin was our rather mousy quiet class mate,until the "Staines and Egham" newspaper appeared with details of her local connection.
From that which I remember, she lived with ,and had been brought up by her Grandmother.

There is an odd source for information on Vicki Martin and the accident in a book called "Ripperologist - the Journal of Jack the Ripper, East End and Victorian Studies"...I said it was an odd source
It includes a write-up of the inquest and background to the accident. Also, the main story from the Daily Mirror with a photo of Vicki Martin.

Hi Monica,
Robertson wrote about the Ripper murders in a magazine(1950) it was he who came up with the first alleged Victim's name "Fairy Fay",trouble is future ripperologist's haven't found any proof that there was such a woman... :)It looks as though he wrote military books mainly.
