john peel (farmer)

I am researching a family crest reputedly associated with john peel of Cumberland
I am the 5th. generation to this person and live in west Australia. I was led to believe that the crest was associated with the warrior descendants ie. those who have been to war.
My grandparents emigrated to Australia about 1925/26 from Newcastle on Tyne and the maiden name was Irving, Joseph and Anne and 3 children.
Some where in my haze I recall the Black Douglas clan perhaps this is the link I am searching for.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
