Gillie "A Directory and Concise History of Berwick upon Tweed" 1806 is searchable online. Two Master Coopers called Thompson listed Ralph at Sandgate; James at Bridge Street (just round the corner from Western Lane) Coopers worked metal, so perhaps ?? Also James Weatherstone Blacksmith and Brass Founder in Castlegate A few other Thompsons in other trades

Hi Annie,
Thank you so much for thaking the time and trouble to look for me. Yes, I saw the cooper Thompsons.
All I have to go by is an old letter stating -
Isabella Thompson married Joseph Weatherston. She was the daughter of Thompson the blakcsmith from Western Lane and her mother was a Hogarth.
I have searched till I feel exhausted trying to find the births and marriages for these four people. I can find Isabella and Joseph Weatherston in Censuses but that is all I can find out about any of them and I cant continue my hunt until I find out Isabella's mother's name.
Again, thank you so much for your time and help
Gillie

I have just searched the Directory & Gazetteer of Durham & Northumberland, 1827 and found James Thompson - Western Lane – WHITESMITH.
I have looked up Whitesmith and it says –
A whitesmith is a person who works with "white" or light-colored metals such as tin and pewter. While blacksmiths work mostly with hot metal, whitesmiths do the majority of their work on cold metal (although they might use a forge to shape their raw materials). The term is also applied to metalworkers who do only finishing work - such as filing or polishing - on iron and other "black" metals. Whitesmiths make things such as tin or pewter cups, water pitchers, forks, spoons, and candle holders.
So Im presuming this might be my man( father of Isabella Thompson born c 1804 and married to Joseph Weatherston)…what do you think??
Can anyone advise James's wife's name??
Cheers
Gillie
