MURDOCHs from Cults
« on: Friday 23 October 09 09:21 UTC (UK) »

I'm trying to find more regarding a MURDOCH family, mostly born in Cults.

The parents are John MURDOCH, a Brewer (Master), for whom I have no dates and Jean (Jane) LOGAN, who died in Cupar in 1856.  She was buried in Kilmany, so may have been from there.  I cannot find a marriage record for them.  John and Jean were my great-great-great-grandparents.

Their children were:
Christian Helen (b. 1817, Cults, m. James THOMSON, 1839, Cupar, d. 1896, Cupar)
Helen (b. 1819, Cults)
Margaret (b. 1821, Cults)
Ann (b. 1821, Cults)
James (b. 1823, Cults, census 1851 in Cupar with mother)
John (b. 1824, Cults, my gg-grandfather, moved to Glasgow, I have traced his line)
David (b. 1827, Cults)
Jean (b. 1831, Cults)
Johanna (born 1834, Cupar, died young).

So I am looking for more information on Helen, Margaret, Ann, James, David and Jean.

Many thanks
Jonathan

Hi Diddy

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I have a copy of Jean's death record.  Also have a Fife HS CD with a couple of possible John MURDOCH deaths, and a copy of Christian Helen MURDOCH's will and testament.  John MURDOCH must have died between about 1834 (their last known child Johanna was born 22 Sep 1834) and 1856.

Do you have an online source for MIs in Kilmany and/or Cupar?

Best wishes
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan, no the fife MI's are in book form arranged by place and then indexed by surname. it is quite time consuming to search for someone. I have the NE and W parishes books but not the SE. kilmany / cupar etc are in the NE.
I can send what Murdochs there are if you think they would be useful, but will have to transcribe out longhand. not allowed to send too many so when have a list will ask for your email by PM!
