Can anyone please help me find when my great grandmother died. I have just spent over one hour searching records and cannot find her. Mary Ellen Beer, nee Haycox, was born in 1892, in Poolsbrook, Staveley. She died sometime after 1973, as my husband can remember going to see her when we first met, about that time. She lived in Mastin Moor for the last part of her life, so will be registered in Chesterfield. I just can't seem to find her. Thank you.

Hi Cathy, Mary Ellen was widowed, I only remember her as a very old lady, living on her own. I have just been looking for the death details of her husband George Beer, who was born in 1888, in Staveley. I thought I had them, but I don't, and I can't find those either. I MUST be doing something wrong, though I don't know what. It must be one of those days where nothing goes right. I found the marriage you found, for Mary Ellen in 1946, but couldn't find the death. I suppose it's possible she married in 1946, and was widowed a second time. Thank you for your help, Anne.

Just a thought , if you know Mary s last address and have access to phonebooks on Ancestry you could have a look under Beer or Birks. Cathy

Hi Cathy, I was looking in the death index on Ancestry. I have just looked again, as you instructed, and I found the entry. Now as you said I would have to purchase the death certificate, and maybe ask my uncle if he can remember, though he, and Mary Ellen parted on bad terms a long time ago, according to him. I'd better not say what he calls her. I have a rough memory of where she lived, I could possibly check up on that. Thank you for your help, I appreciate it, Anne.
