The meaning of the term 'NURSE CHILD'
« on: Friday 23 October 09 13:36 UTC (UK) »

Hi can anyone help me. I'm trying to find an ancestor on the 1911 census and am not having much luck. There is a child with a very similar name but is listed with a different family as a nurse child. She is aged 12. It's quite feasible that she would be with a different family as both her parents had died by 1911. Her father in 1900 and her mother in 1906. Can anyone tell me what a nurse chiuld actually is??

Many Thanks

Ooh!  There was another post recently, but can't remember where - possibly London area, about Nurse Children, and it wasn't nice  Cry  Most of these poor little mites were literally starved to death by their "carers".
