Hi,
It's me again, think I'm getting nearer to finding the puzzle of George & his Father Thomas leech. Could anyone look up 1861 census please in Ashton under lyne or surrounding area for Thomas Leech born about 1827 & his wife Edna born about 1827. I think they married 1860. Also 1871 census for Thomas Stanfield born about 1821 his wife Edna born about 1827, son Elias born 1857 & stepson George Leech or Stanfield born 1866, stepdaughter Mary Alice Leech or Stanfield born 1864. Think my Thomas Leech & Edna Allcock married 1860 & they had Mary Alice & George then Thomas her husband died 1867 & she remarried Thomas Stanfield very quickly the same year. I found the Stanfield family on 1881 census & am hoping these are all the people in my family, Mary Alice is down with surname Stanfield his stepdaughter but I found her birth under Leech. Please help solve the puzzle Many Thanks Sossle.

Hi Sossie,
In 1871 Elias Stanfield is with his aunt Louisa Howard (Born c.1840, Ashton) at 66c Bentinck St, Ashton.
In 1861 Elias is with grandparents Thomas and Mary Howard. Louisa Howard is there as well (Thomas & Mary's daughter) also a John W Howard age 12 (Thomas & Mary's nephew)

Thank you all so much for all the info. I'm convinced I have the correct family as Mary Alice is definately a leech. All the research with different marriages is now confirmed but George still does not appear on the 1871 census! He would have been 4 or 5. Think I will have to try for the birth certificate from Tameside.
Regards Sossle
