Parental confirmation ????

Hi there

On the Riches branch of my tree I have got back as far as Robert Riches b. 1801 m Charlotte Trower in 1828 in Norwich

I have found a possibility for Roberts Parents and was hoping someone could confirm this for me

I have found William Riches (no birth record) m Mary Ann Chalders / Shalders in 1798 and had Mary Ann b. 1798, Robert b. 1801, William b. 1803, Sarah Elizabeth b. 1805 and Susannah b. 1807

Is this the right family??  Huh

The 1851 Census shows Robert as born in Stratton, Norfolk.

FreeReg shows the baptism of a Robert Riches 25/1/1800, son of Mary Riches at Long Stratton and I would think this more likely to be him.

As this record has no fathers name, would Robert have been illegitimate??

I'm afraid so - if you look at the entry on FreeReg it states at the bottom 'base born'.
