Some time ago I got the service record from my Great-grandfather who served in the Royal Garrison Artillery 1885 to 1905 and then in France 1919-1920. If I remember I downloaded it from Ancestry via a National Archive search (am I correct - I'm not sure that's the problem!)
Anyway I would like to search for a GG-grandfather service records in the Royal Horse Artillery which would have been sometime between 1850 and when he died in 1878. Can I do this online?
thanks for the advice

Not yet. You can search online for service records of men discharged before the end of 1854 by using the NA Catalgue. If you get a hit you can ask for printed copies to be sent. For everyone discharged between 1855 and 1913 you have to go to Kew. However Findmypast have almost finished scanning pre-WW1 records and will be putting them online by 2011.
