according to 1851 census (previously posted) Walsh Walsh was the son of Mary Walsh (she is recorded as married in 1851 -but husband is not at home)

..... and the 1851 census which Sylvia posted has Richard as married -but no wife at home1851 Coat House over darwen Lancs Richard Walsh Head M 47 Farmer James Walsh son U 22 Weaver
next door- brow Top Thomas Walsh head U 49 Farmer
next door- Brow Top
James Walsh head U 50 Porter
all b Over darwen
HO107 2261 251 2
so was Richard married to Mary but they lived apart - maybe Richard was keeping the farm going -so he and james were there on census night?

this looks like the families in 1861 -but no Richard
1861 Over darwen
Top of Brow Thomas Walsh head U 44 farmer of 6 acres
next door -Top of Brow James Walsh Head U 60 Calico Weaver
next door Coat House James Walsh Head m 33 Farmer of 8 acres Ellen wife 36 Mary Ellen daughter 3
all b Over Darwen RG9 3110 11 17
then in 1871 Cough over darwen
james Walsh head M 41 farmer of 7 acres Ellen wife 46 mary E daughter 12 Nancy daughter 9 Thomas son 6
next door Thomas Walsh head U 66 farmer of 7 acres James Walsh brother U 68 Hand Loom Weaver unemployes
all b darwen
RG10 41 88 66 20
then 1881 14 Bull Hill bar over darwen James Walsh Head M 52 Farm bailiff unemployed Ellen wife 56 Thomas son 16 Plumber mary E daughter 22 Coton Weaver
next door at no 15 Rhomas Walsh Head U 78 terired farner
all b Darwen RG11 4303 61 20
so at least we know James and Thomas were brothers (1871 census) - so if Richard was also a brother the younger james would be their nephew?
