Crocket / Crockett ? Drumcree
« on: Saturday 24 October 09 08:18 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to trace Atkinson Crocket(t) born about 1824, and son of Henry Crocket(t) and Jane Burns.

Atkinson married in 1842, at Drumcree,  Sara whose surname is variously given as Duck / Duckworth /Drake.  I believe Duck is correct, and she may have been a widow.

They had issue Robert (1849), Mary (1852), Sarah (1854) and Jane (1858) all born in Portadown before the family emigrated to New Zealand.

I have looked at the familysearch Irish Civil Registrations Index without success.

I would be grateful for any suggestions as to how I should proceed.

Hi Tony

Thanks for that,  I tried to contact Sarah (and a few others who are interested) but the links no longer work.

If you look at the details of Irish Civil Registrations you will see that registration of births, deaths and Catholic marriages began in 1864 (other marriages from 1845) and all are too late for tracing your Crockett family which is why you found nothing on that site.
"An index of Ireland civil registration including births, 1864-1958, marriages, 1845-1958, and deaths, 1864-1958."

Not sure what link you mean doesn't work but clicking on Tony's link brought up that thread. You can always post a reply there and perhaps 1 of them will get in touch.

Sarah posted the same information in a number of places, but the email that she provided bounces.  I have tried to contact her for a number of years.

I should have been more specific.  I meant that I found no reference to Atkinson's parents, whose deaths I had searched for.  I hoped to convey that I had done a little of the "leg work".

His father, Henry Waite, a soldier of the 18th Royal Irish, is an even more interesting character.

Unfortunately expired email addresses on old posts are quite common but you can still reply to the thread and see if the original poster or someone else has more information.
