Kilantringan or Kilsaintninian, Barrhill
« on: Saturday 24 October 09 08:23 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone have any information on Kilantringan or Kilantringan Farm, Barrhill, please (Also spelt Killantringan and Kilsaintninian).  There is another Killantringan Farm down towards Portpatrick, which is confusing.  The name is derived from Kil-Saint Ninian which means the Chapel of St Ninian, the remains of which are nearby.  The original Kilantringan is shown on Blaeu's map based on Pont's survey of the 1590's and has been owned by the Kennedys and McMickings.  When Marion McMeikin died in the 19th century without issue Kilantringan was bought by Peter Rigby Wason of Corwar.  We think Kilantringan Farm was built about that time but would love to know more about it.  The deeds were apparently lost in a fire at the solicitor's office.  I believe the site of the original Kilantringan house was near the site of the Chapel but there is nothing to show a house was ever there.  Any information at all would be most appreciated.
