Have just started tracing my Kelly line.

My GGF, Joseph Kelly married Alice Ascroft on 13/11/1895 at Lowe House Catholic Church, St Helens, Lancs.  On the marriage cert his father is Thomas, deceased, and was a Chemical Labourer.  In the 1911 England/Wales census he states he is from Mullingar, West Meath.

I haven't been able to identify him in the 1901 census and wonder if he was still in Ireland.

Can anyone advise on how to take my search back to Mullingar and what records I would need to locate.  Is there anyone with local knowledge who can offer advice and practical help?
