Help identify Badge please
« on: Saturday 24 October 09 10:34 UTC (UK) »

Hi
My dad was in the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards, at Dunkirk and with them on D Day.
Amongst various bits and pieces he brought back was this cloth badge. It is black cloth and measures 8 cms tall and 7 cms from wing tip to wing tip.
I've searched loads of internet sites but cannot find anything similar and wondered if anyone here can identify it or even tell me which country it is from.
I am 99.9% sure it has no connection to his Regiment.
Would appreciate any help
Many thanks
Paula

This may not be much help but the description seems similar:

"CREST :- On a wreath an eagle displayed Sable beaked and membered Argent. SUPPORTERS :- Dexter; A griffin (uncoloured and very faintly drawn). Sinister; As the dexter. MOTTO :- Fides."

That's a description of the arms of Lord Sinclair in the Dunvegan armorial

I think it is possibly a souvenir!
Taken from a captured  Werhmacht (Austrian) soldiers  uniform .
The old double headed eagle had been suceeded by a single head after WW1 when Modern Austria was formed.  Rog

The badge looks like the 13th century arms of Poland

7 Tank Transport Regt had  badge very much like this one from 1987 as a mark of respect for its Polish Tank Transporters.

Hi,
thanks so much for everyone's input. The souvenir from a captured soldier's uniform ties in with a couple of other things dad brought back, like a gold metal swastika lapel pin. On the other hand the Scottish and the Polish connections are interesting.
Dad was in a tank regiment 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards so there could be a connection with the Polish Tank Transporters.
I know there were also quite a lot of Scottish guys in his Regiment too, but if so I suppose they would have the same badges as he wore.
It's all fascinating.
