MILLS Family in Great Marlow
« on: Saturday 24 October 09 11:50 UTC (UK) »

I noticed TrishG offered to look up registers in Great Marlow. My request is to find the baptism of Priscilla Elderfield Mills, born  1814/1815. Her father's name was William Mills---am wondering if her mother was an Elderfield.I would pleased to get any thing about the families---siblings or occupations.I do have details of her marriage in Reading in 1840. A witness was Eliza Mills, also William Pearse Ivey and Mary Rouse Ivey.   Would appreciate some help

The baptisms and burials in which TrishG offered lookups were transcribed and published by The Eureka Partnership and are their copyright.  Copies of these publications at very reasonable prices can be obtained from The Eureka Partnership at www.eurekapartnership.com

Thanks for letting me know about this site.

I have been onto it-- an have ordered 2 of their booklets--ouch! when you have to buy 2 to cover the dates I want.

But where are the Marriage regs for Great Marlow before 1837--say 1800 to 1811. Can you point me in the right direction please.

I think you'll find the books are good value for money.  Marlow was such a populous parish (the baptism entries average well over a hundred each year) that it would not be possible to include everything in one volume without creating a very expensive book.

Great Marlow marriages 1592 to 1837 are available on microfiche from Buckinghamshire Family History Society.  You can order them online via their website at www.bucksfhs.org.uk

Alternatively, both Buckinghamshire Family History Society and The Eureka Partnership will be at West Surrey Family History Society Open Day at Woking Leisure Centre, Kingfield Road, Woking, Surrey, from 10.00a.m. to 4.30p.m.
For further details about this event go to http://www.wsfhs.org/Openday.htm

Thanks for your help with info to trace the Mills family. Pleased the two booklets arrived today and I found 8 Baps in one book and the 9th child in the other book, which was the main one I was looking for!   So very pleased all round and made the expense well worth it.  So I now have an approximate marriage date
of 1795---his wife's  name and an occupation with the last recorded baptism
Excellent!   Will get on to the FHS site to find the marriage.
Had planned to go to the West Surrey  FH fair---was so good last time. Will look out for   Eureka  and Bucks FHS.
It is sad that the church where all of these baptisms and possibly the marriage, occurred in Gt Marlow fell in to a bad state, due to regular flooding in 1830 and was replaced in 1835 by the present church.
Still--may visit it one day.----Thanks again
