Hi Toon

Welcome to Rootschat!  Smiley

Have you found Herbert in the 1911 census yet?

What occupation does John have, according to the marriage certs?

Kind regards, Arranroots  Wink

Hmm - any idea when Beatrice was born?

There are two, both in Glamorgan, in the 1911 census - the one in Pontypridd has a father John, who's a coal miner hewer.  No Herbert though!

Can you tell us everything you know about the family please - places and happenings, anything that might help narrow it down a bit!

Thanks!

So the Pontypridd family is a possibility?

Do you have any idea where the parents came from - Somerset for example?

Do you know why Herbert was put in an orphanage - were his parents in fact dead?

Still looking around ...

According to his death record in 1993, he was born on the 23rd May 1906 - so that should be recorded in the June quarter of 1906.

Just to give you something to do (!)

I have been trying to match Herberts born in June Q 1906 with marriages to a John BROWN.

For example = there's a Herbert EVANS born, then later a couple of marriages between ladies with surname EVANS and a John BROWN.

Nothing conclusive, but it might give you something to go on.  I have to stop now though - another 60-odd to go if you fancy the task?

Alternatively you could try a post on the WWII board on Rootschat.  Give them Herbert's details and say that you think he served in the Paras and they might be able to come up with something to help.

I'll check back later!

Kind regards, Arranroots  Wink
