Richard PARRINGTON of Baldock
« on: Saturday 24 October 09 16:23 UTC (UK) »

Hi - does anyone have any suggestions of where I might look now

Richard Parrington married Sarah Walsh 17th April 1772 in Baldock,  they are my 5 x gt grandparents.  Sarah was a widow her first husband was William Walsh who died 27th March 1771 in Baldock,  Sarahs maiden name was Pain(e)

From their gravestone I found that Sarah died in 1799 aged 58 and Richard in 1805 aged 58,  but I can't find out where either of them came from  before their marriages.  Sarah's first marriage to William was in 1768 in Hitchin - but I can't see a likely baptism for her there.  Paine is a fairly common name which I know will make it harder to find the right one,  but Parrington is comparitivly uncommon there are only 2 other mentions of the surname in family search for Hertfordshire before 1772 and all the ones afterwards are related to this couple.  There are no baptisms in Family search in England for a Richard Parrington + or - 5 years from his proble birth year of 1747.

Please does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Debbie,

The Hertfordshire Marriage Index describes the groom of the 1772 Baldock marriage as Richard Parrington of Stevenage.

TNA has a will for a Richard Parrington, Innholder of Baldock 1801.

This may or may not be your guy but the Parrington name appears scarce in Herts so there's most likely a family connection.

There is also a marriage for a Jos. Parrington* of St Michael Bass who married Mary Hudson at St Andrew Hertford 13 Sept 1769. Owing to the rarity of the name, Jos. may be a brother to Richard.

The only other mention of an early Parrington name I can see on the Herts Marriage index is that of William Parrington but that's in 1695. Maybe someone to keep on hold for later.

Di

From London Magazine under the heading of 1769 Marriages:
Mr Joseph Parrington, a Blackwell-Hall factor, to Miss Polly Hudson  Huh

Thank you both for some really useful information (and thanks for the PM Lady Di).  From the IGI it seems that Joseph and wife Mary lived afterwards in London where they had several children in different parishes,  the name Joseph doen't feature in my Parrington family at all.  Richard & SArah called their first son Thomas,  I was wondering if it might be Richard's fathers name.  Their second daughter (my ancestress) was called Fanny but I can't seem to make any nameing connections with that either.

Will continue to search
