looking for William Cecil 1907 onwards
« on: Saturday 24 October 09 16:55 UTC (UK) »

We are trying to trace William Cecil Bedwell,my grandfather, who was born to Hugh  and Laura nee Malam in 1907 in Steyning Sussex.Hugh, a solicitor, died in 1914 in York after being in hospital for 7 years and Laura is in lodgings in London in the 1911 census, but although we have traced most of both sides of the family we cannot find William at all, even though he would only be 4.
We know that he turned up in Carlisle Cumberland in 1924 as a soldier but can't find which regiment he was in.He married my grandmother in 1924 had 2 sons and disappeared again in the late 1920s.He died in Salford Manchester in 1939,but that is all we know.Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Jubed

Hi,

Could he be the Cecil Bedwell born Sussex aged 4, living in an Institution in Paddington, London on the 1911?

Regards,

Hi Jubed & Mo

I saw that Cecil too; he is recorded as an orphan (added: in fact, they're all orphans)  Undecided

Jubed, where did you find Laura?  I can't see her under Bedwell.  Forget that, I'm having a doh! week  Roll Eyes

Hi Gaie  and Mo,we were starting to wonder. This is turning out to be a really sad story as dad Hugh was from a really well to do family and died in a mental hospital.Looks as if Mum Laura has
dumped Cecil and then went off to make her fortune on the London stage and as an author. She
died in 1942 in London and appears to have been well off herself.
Many thanks Jubed
