Double Wedding?
« on: Saturday 24 October 09 17:44 UTC (UK) »

Hello

Is there a possibility that my great-grandmother and her sister married on the same day/place? My great-grandparents were John Henry Banks and Dorothy Agnes Smith who married at Basildon, Berkshire (Bradfield Reg Dist) on 27 Oct 1917.

Her sister Elizabeth Mary Smith married a James F. Smith in the same District in the same quarter - and their marriage is on the same vol/page, 2c 845.

Could this have been a double wedding seeing as they are recorded on the same vol/page?

That's one possibility.
They might have married on the same day, but not as a double wedding.
They might have married days or weeks apart depending on how busy the parish was - and it just happened that the next entry was still on the same page.

The parish wasn't busy.... if they were both at the same parish then john & Dorothy were on Page 2 (I have seen this) so they would be on Page 3.

Will find out next week when I go to the Record Office
