Hi Britboy

Closest I can find is Harriet Taylor baptised in Eastchurch on the Isle of Sheppey 30th June 1806 (born 25th May)  parents are William and Mary.

Also born to William and Mary:
Mary Ann 1804
Grace 1808
Mahtela 1809
Robert Bills 1819
Nathaniel 1821
Sarah 1816

William was a butcher.

Not sure if this is the family you are looking for but maybe some of the above names could help.

If you need any further info, please let me know Smiley

Thanks but I am not sure if this is the same family.  I have 3 later census records tying a birth year to 1811.  I know they probably got some years mixed up back then!

She married a Charles Jarvis from Yalding Kent.  If I can find a marriage record I suppose I could link the parents that way (hopefully)

Do you know the best way to check for a marriage record?  All the census info I have shows them living in and around Chatham and Gillingham

Thanks again!

Hi

Do you have any idea where/when she married Charles Jarvis?  I've had a look on the IGI but there's nothing there - I will see if I can find anything else on my CD for Sheppey.

Have you tried looking on cityark.medway.gov.uk If they married in the Medway area then hopefully you will find them there.

I'll let you know how I get on Smiley

I haven't yet but I will...

In the 1841 census record they are living in Rochester and the name was transcribed wrong (Jarves) and have 3 kids, the oldest being 10 (Gladys)  Charles is a Town Carter

I will start searching the local parish registers through CityArk starting in 1831 and going backwards.  I assume they got married before she was expecting Gladys!!!

Thanks so much for your help

Hi

Cant find anything for Sheppey or the surrounding parishes.  Its very possible they married in Rochester around 1830 so hopefully you'll find a record of the marriage.  Unfortunately it is not likely to give the name of the fathers as later records do.  However the witnesses may be helpful.

Good luck with your search and if you need any further help please let me know

Thanks for your help.  I searched Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham CityArk records today from 1828 through 1832, to no avail

It could be that she was born in 1806 and therefore marriage may have been a few years earlier.  I will keep looking!

Cheers

Good luck and don't give up.  I've found some of my missing ancestors well outside the time scale I had expected them to marry in.  There's every possibility they married after the birth of their first child.
