I've hit a brick wall/conundrum. Can you help?
1861 - Sarah Ann (3) living with her parents Edward and Mary Ann in Southacre. 1871 - Sarah Ann (13) still in Southacre with her parents. 1881 - Sarah Ann (24) working as a domestic nurse/servant for the Burra family at Frogmore House, St Albans, Herts.
Now here's where things start to go askew.
1891 - I found a Sarah Ann Cooke (32, b. Castleacre) Living at Castleacre st., Castleacre. She gives her name as Sarah A Cooke, although she is now married to a Frederick W Eagle. We know this, as one of the house occupants is father-in-law, Richard Eagle.
If this is the correct Sarah Ann Cooke, why would she go by her maiden name? Maybe I overlooked it, but I can find no record of the marriage. What's going on?

The head of the family is Frederick W. Cooke (butcher) in the 1891 Census entry to which you refer.
Frederick William Cooke married Sarah Ann Eagle (GRO: 4b 646 Swaffham Sep 1884).
Richard Eagle is, therefore, Sarah Ann's father (ie father-in-law to Frederick).

Thanks for looking Jen, much appreciated, but it's not her. William lived in Derbyshire in 1881 and in 1891.
