Completed Birth John Fox derby
« on: Sunday 25 October 09 14:25 UTC (UK) »

Hi all
I am looking for birth of a John Fox, was either 1807 or 1811.
I have Baptism 12 april 1812 St Werburghs Derby.
reason for the other 2 dates is on 1841 census states DOB 1811, on 1851 states 1807.
Wondered if anybody got access to DOBs or anybody going to Matlock in near future who could have look for me.

thanks Colin.   Wink Wink

Can you clarify - are you looking for an alternative baptism because you dont think the one you have is him, or are you thinknig there will be a Birth record too? If the latter, then as this is pre 1837 when civil registration began, there will be no record of a birth, only a christeninig if one took place.
Remember that ages on 1841 censsu are rounded, so inaccuracies of up to 5 years are to be expected.
Also that children werent always christened as tiny babies, often as older children.

Hi Lzdb
Was after a birth, think the Baptism I have is correct.
So more than likely the 1851 census is correct of 1807 this would make illegitimate, I suppose his parents maybe waited until they were married before they had him Baptised.
does make sense.

Thanks Colin.
