Hi,
On the 1881 census ref rg11/1090/63/42 there is recorded a George Hood 39 and his wife Bertha. I believe this to be a relation I am looking for but certain criteria do not match. His occupation on An* is Russian Merchant and his place of birth Rica Russia. However George was in a family iron foundry business producing cast railings etc. Do you think this may read a Railings Merchant. Also George was born in Bolton Lancs--any ideas about the where born.

on the 1891 transcribed as todd. this could be your man from 1881 the wifes age and place of birth are the same no hilda in 1881 though?

bertha age 38. b. woolwich. wife
hilda age 11. b. s.kensington. daughter
beryl.m. age 2. b. krensington. daughter
plus 3 servants
living at; 4 l----- gardens,kensington
it does say todd on the actual image

I have checked the 1881 image and his birthplace is definitely Riga Russia and he is shown as a Russian merchant

With a name like George Hood he doesn't sound very Russian does he?

i have found the baptism of hilda frances todd in 1879 in kensington and the fathers name is george nicholas todd occ. merchant mother bertha todd
don't know if this is any use though
nicholas russian name?

hilda frances todd is on the 1881 census
RG11/48/100/56
when you go to the image she is not on the page but on the next page at 87 gloucester road
this is the same address that is on the baptismal entry
there are no parents with her but a brother george eardley todd
carole could you have a look and see what you think.
