Missing on the 1891 Census
« on: Sunday 25 October 09 15:41 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

Just wondered if someone could end my confusion!!

I am searching for my ancestor Samuel Smallshaw, born 1859c in Chorlton on the 1891 census.
I have found his wife Elizabeth and children Elizabeth, William and Samuel but he is missing!! The record i have for his death (If correct) is 1895.

Where could he be?

Hello Laura,

are they mistranscribed on 1891 - I can't see them.
Do you have the census details?

Hello - yes I found it.

He was a 'Lurry Driver' in 1881.

The family are in Salford in 1891 and there is a death in Salford in 1895. Undecided and Elizabeth is a widow in 1901.

I suppose that would be the same- there is a William Smallshaw carter - is that his brother?

So you have his death certificate? I was going to suggest getting that one.

Where was his address?
Who was the informant?
Does that information help?

It may be that he was away and just is not included on census.

Laura

They mean similar things I think carter is along the lines of driving a horse and cart
