Looking for any information on Rev Charles Carroll who was resident in Tipperary in 1865. I believe he may have been from Armagh originally. In 1865 he owned a house in College Street Armagh which he leased out to St John's Masonic Lodge, Armagh. don't know what parish it was but i know he was Church of Ireland minister. can anyone give me any suggestions please as to where i find out any more info. thanks Cesca

not certain if this is the same person but found a few mentions of a Charles Carroll (CofI) in the established church ecclesiastical section of Thom's directory :
1863 - Charles Carroll, A.B. curate of Oola, Diocese of Emly, post town Tipperary
1877/80/84/94 - Charles Carroll, A.B. Clashmore, Diocese of Lismore
he does not appear in any of the earlier editions.

Shane, have spent most of today trying to find out about Rev Charles Carroll when he was in Oola and also Clashmore .......... but not a thing. Did it happen to mention in Thom's which parish he was at. Also have tried to look at Thom's myself, but I can't access it. have also been on internet looking for list of C o I churches in Oola and Clashmore but without success. i have no idea which parish i am looking for really. cannot find any listings/trade directories which may give residents in both places around the time he was there. any thoughts or suggestions as always would be great. my head's getting a bit sore now .... not to mention my fingers! thanks any snippets of advice .... wonderful! cheers Cesca

The Thom's listing I posted is all the information I found, I'll double check to see if there is anything else in another section of the directory. The directory is Dublin based, so only includes basic details for areas in other parts of Ireland.
There are some extracts from an 1860 edition on the Library Ireland site, but I dont think any of the ecclesiastical directory is included. The only complete Thom's available online that I know of is an 1850's edition - I believe it's on google books. I have a few of the original books

Another little snippet:
July 23, 1859 (From the Irish Ecclesiastical Gazette) APPOINTMENTS Diocese of Cashel--Rev. John A. LONG, to the curacy of Killea, Dunmore East; Rev. Charles CARROLL, to the curacy of Templetuohy; Rev. T. W. S. COLLIS, to the curacy of Ballysheehan; Rev. H. H. MADDENT, A.M., to the chancellorship of Cashel. Hope it helps.

hi corisande, yes that is the article i was referring to. i have emailed the lodge in the hope that they may have some archived records which may give a little more information about Rev Charles Carroll. shall have to wait and see. in the meantime have been searching the web for anything more on him i can find and have come up with mention of him in the university of dublin calendar for 1894 where he is shown in the section 'subscribers to graduates' tercentenary memorial' as being a benefactor to Trinity college in the sum of £5.5s.0d. he is shown as Carrol, Rev. Charles M.D. i wonder how much that is now!
any thoughts about the entry regarding the masons lodge and charles carroll? thanks for your info cheers :)Cesca
