1841 and 1851 Census John and Sarah Shaw

Searching for John and Sarah Shaw on 1841 and 1851 census.  Born Chatham Kent.Married Sept 1814 in Kent  and later moved to W.Yorkshire possibly near Halifax or Huddersfield

How do you know that they moved to W Riding?

Yes William was their son.  He married Mary Ann Maude in Elland (nr Halifax) in Aug 1850 and the certificate was signed by his father John Shaw.

How can you be sure that it was John Shaw his father rather than one of the other dozens of John Shaw in the area?

John Shaw husband of Sarah from Chatham was a Stonemason.  John Shaw witnesses the wedding cert. was a Stoker.  I am beginning to think that I have the wrong William. I was working in conjunction with another rootschatter who had lots of information and was following the same family and who wrote to me and asked if William was a Chimney Sweep from Chatham Kent (as in 1861 Census).  Looks like I will have to go back and start looking for the beginnings of William from Chatham that married Mary Ann Maude in Elland.  At least I know that William, Chimney Sweep said to be from Chatham married to Mary Ann is the correct one as they were known for some time as Maude-Shaw. Maybe because  the first two children John William and his brother were born before the marriage.  They may have been the children of Mary Ann Maude.  That's another problem I have yet to work out!

I have been in touch with the previous rootschatter who is researching the same family "Shaw".  William who married Mary Ann Maud in 1850 in Elland.  Apparently his parents John and Sarah Shaw shifted from Chatham in Kent to Huddersfield and were shown on the 1841 Census with two children who were born in Huddersfield namely Harriet and Joshua.  In 1841 Census William then aged 20 years is living in Swan Lane with his brother Robert. In 1851 he and Mary Ann are living in Rosemary Lane and 1861 in Horseshoe Yard Huddersfield.  Where were he and Mary Ann in 1871?

I'm sorry if I haven't given you the right information. I'm not quite sure quite which information is the most useful.  In 1851 Harriet would have been 21 yrs and Joshua 19 and possibly neither lived at home.  The only later date I have is John Shaw being witness to his daughter Eliza Ann's wedding in Manchester in 1857.  (She was a widow and re-marrying).  In March 1873 John was once again a witness to a wedding  of his daughter Eliza Ann....once again Widowed. This time she was married in St.Paul's Church Bury, Lancashire. 
That's all I know.
I'll just have to forget it!

Joshua and Harriet are children born to John and Sarah after shifting from Kent.  the following was sent to me by another relative after my enquiry. I am so confused and I am sorry I am confusing you too.

Thankyou Pauline for your patience.  I didn't know about Robert and it seems he was born in Huddersfield as well as Harriet and Joshua.  They had at least 5 children that I know of born in Kent.  The puzzle is coming together.
