Thomas K. Calder, born Australia, enlisted in the Regular Army on 10 Jun. 1917 at Fort Thomas, Kentucky. He resided at S. Main St., Middletown, Ohio. His race was white, and his serial number was 1922027. He was in Ambulance Company 22 Fort Oglethorpe Ga (326 Ambulance Company 307 Sanitary Train) to discharge. He was a private 1st class on 2 Aug. 1917, a mechanic on 1 Oct. 1917, and a sergeant 10 Jul. 1918. He was at St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne in the Defensive Sector of American Expeditionary Forces, 18 May 1918 to 6 May 1919. He was honorable discharged on 26 May 1919.
He registered with a home for disabled volunteer soldiers in Dayton, Ohio in 1921. The enlistment info on the register matches the above. It says he was born Australia, age 32, 5'8" tall, white complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, and able to read & write. Under "Rate of Pension", it says WR.J. $135.00. Under "Date of Admission, Re-Admission and Transfer," it says Ad. C.B. Dec. 15, 1921 and below that, Read. C.B. Aug. 16, 1922.
WWII Draft Registration Card 25 Apr. 1942 Thomas Kirkaldie Calder 1700 Wyoming St., Dayton, Mont. Co., Ohio Telephone - Ke 4543 Age 54, born 6 Jun. 1888 in Sydney, N.S.W., Australia Person who will always know his address - wife Mrs. Adeline Calder Employer - McGraw Contractors, Middletown, Ohio - now working in Dayton 5'8 1/2" tall, 198 lbs., white, blue eyes, fair hair, ruddy complexion
1944 Williams' Dayton City Directory Calder, Adaline S Mrs., compt opr Wall Cassell Groneweg, home 1700 Wyoming Calder, Thos K (Adaline S) decorator Miami Hotel, home 1700 Wyoming
In the 1930 Census, Thomas & Adaline are living in Dayton with Adaline's father Frank E. Sellers and her sister Cora Sellers. It looks like Thomas & Adaline were married about 1929. Thomas is listed as born Australia, parents born Scotland, immigrated 1910, naturalized, an interior decorator, and a veteran of WWI. Adaline was age 36 and born Ohio. On the Social Sec. Death Index & Florida Death Index, it appears that Adaline S. Calder was born 24 Feb. 1894 and died 24 Sep. 1972 in Hillsborough Co., Florida. Her last residence was New Port Richey, Pasco Co., Florida, and her Social Security # was issued in Ohio before 1951. The Florida Death Index says Thomas Kirkcaldie Calder died in Feb. 1961 in Hillsborough Co.
