Glam (Swansea) soldier look up
« on: Monday 26 October 09 00:06 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

My interest in the 6th  Welsh  lead me to find this young chap :-
Name:     Charles Henry Newbury
Birth Place:    Swansea
Residence:    Swansea
Death Date:    23 Dec 1914
Rank:    Private
Regiment:    Welsh Regiment
Battalion:    1/6th Battalion.
Number:    1531
Type of Casualty:    Died

His rank on his grave tone is listed as BOY which I have always found odd. I have looked in the South wales Daily Post but can find no reference to his death, I would like to try and find out more about him.

I can find no medal index card for him.

Any offers of help would be much appreciated, as this is my first research request on Rootschat.

Hi
My thoughts  when a soldier dies are their deaths registered in the Uk.
Anyway I looked your boy up

Birth- Charles Henry Newbury 2nd qtr, vol 11a page 1010 district Swansea.
On 1901 census -
believe this to be him with his family- note he was born at time of census March  but birth not registered until April.

Hi Bev,
I found your name while I was doing a search on my great great grandfather John S Harries (Harris) He was one of the founding fathers of the Swedenborgian Church in Wales.  I am just guessing but I gathered you may be related to him? if so would you mind getting in touch with me via email?

Thank you very much!!
