New Family
« on: Monday 26 October 09 01:38 UTC (UK) »

I am seeking any information on the NEW family during their time in Sth. Shields. I have hit many brick walls during my investigations, so any info would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

What have you looked at so far?--so we don't duplicate your efforts.  What do you know about this family besides the basic name?  What years are we looking at? --just narrowing it down to a particular century.

I have James Parlett NEW b. 1826 - 1835 (?) married to Mary Ann WARREN (date unknown). I know little about them other than James parents were Thomas New and Elizabeth PARLETT. I know nothing of Mary WARRENS family.
Also of interest is Catherine Ann SCOTT (I only know marriage date of 15 Mar. 1886) who was married to James Edward NEW (b.1864?). I would dearly love any info on the same family "upstream" from these people. Any help whatsoever would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance for your time.

1891 Census has James, born 1864, Kings Lynn, Norfolk and Catherine, 1866, Sutherland, Durham. They are living in Westoe.
RG12/4158/97/51

1901 they have 4 children and are living in Sth Shields.

Marriage Reg;
James Edward NEW
Catherine SCOTT
March 1886
S  Shields  10a 771

Do you have this cert ?
If you have you should have both Fathers names.

1871 Census
There is a James Edward NEW, born 1865, Kings Lynn, is living with his Mother Maryann in 1871 + siblings
RG10/ 1865 /29/16

Marriage;
Thomas NEW
Elizabeth PARLETT
Holy Trinity Prs, Marham, Norfolk
12 February 1817
Details and witnesses on FreeREG

There are lots of NEW christenings on Freereg for children of Thomas and Elizabeth including a James 1822.

The only Catherine Scott I can find born 1865, Sutherland, is with her parents in 1881;
RG11/5008/107/17

You really need James/Catherines Marriage Cert to confirm Fathers names and occupations.

Many thanks Trish. No I dont have the certificates for these folk - it appears it is something I have to do. I have collected some certificates for other sections of the family as time and money have allowed. I am based in Australia to add a little to the complications. Once again, thanks for your time and efforts. Wayne

Elizabeth PARLET
Christened 23 October 1796, Marham, Norfolk
Parents WILLIAM and ANN
Sibling;
Maria, 24 January 1808

This batch may just have females on it and would explain gap in ages.
Maria is used as a name also in later New generations.

There is an extracted record for a Marriage on the IGI;
Wm PARLET
Ann MACHIN
15 July 1794, Fincham, Norfolk
