marriage of George Smith abt 1888
« on: Monday 26 October 09 07:49 UTC (UK) »

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me with this search.

I have been looking for days and have got nowhere.

I have George Smith born about 1857 in Rye

I have in the 1891 census in Hastings with Emma born in Hastings and son George age 7 years old born in Hastings

The 1901 census he is with Emily and George is 16 born in Hastings

The 1911 census again with Emma from Hastings and they had been married for 23 years which means they married about 1888 and I reckon Hastings.

Mother in law Mary Coleman is with them.

So why can I not find a marriage about 1888 of a George Smith to a Emma or Emily Coleman??

George is part of a very complicated family whereby all the girls that I have birth certificates for have different fathers on birth from marriage certificates and I am trying to widen the search and check out some of the boys.

I would be grateful if someone could have a look, possibly you might have seen something I have missed.

Thank you

Is Mary a widow?  Is it possible she was widowed twice and Coleman is the surname of her second husband while Emma / Emily was by her first (and so does not have Coleman as her maiden name)?

There's an Emily Blackman on the same page as George Smith in Q2 1889, Hastings.  This might be a possibility if the guess about Mary's widowhood has any validity.

Just an idea.

Hi

Only marriage I could see was George Smith m Emily Blackman Jun 1889 Hastings 2b 47, any chance that the surname Coleman comes from a second marriage for Mary.

Good Luck, Jan
