Hi Taffess

In that area, the only The Pentre that I can think of is to the North of Chirk. I/we still refer to it as that  Grin

Here's a location map:

There might be another one but I can't think of one.

PS - Pentre means hamlet or village

Thanks for the info Gadget. I think I have the wrong marrriage certificate. I'm searching for a Margaret Ellis nee Davies born in Llanymynech 1835/36 who married a Richard Ellis. first child born 1857 Llanymynech.I have her upto 1911, but all I have on Richard Ellis is the correct death certificate for him. He is not at home on 1861 census and she is a widow in 1871 census.

I've found Margaret on the 1861 in Crickheath:

RG9/1877/41/2

It says that she's the wife of a Limestone Quarryman so I'll look for a Richard with that occupation!

Is she the Margaret Davies who was baptised 17 April 1836, Llanymynech

Parents - David Davies and Mary

This from IGI extracted and no other Margaret Davies showing around that time.

Hi there, I think the IGI Margaret Davies is her, but the marriage certificate states both fathers as Richard - labourers. I also have the birth certificate for their first child who is my gt grandmother - born Oct. 1857 father's occupation lime stone lab. The marriage certificate I have is dated Aug. 1857 - Banns were called! Would labourers be able to pay for a church wedding?  Death date for Richard Ellis is May 1869 occupation Ag Lab. 48yrs.  This ties in with date of birth1870 for last child. I hoped to get back to 1851/41 for a record of their families before their marriage. If it took place in Montgomeryshire would you know where the record would be? Thanks for your help.

Hi

Llanymynech is a tricky one because it straddles counties.  I had a look on the North Wales BMD but couldn't find one and I thought that all the Montgomeryshire marriages had been transcribed ........ so   Undecided

So, we're looking for someone b. circa 1821, who was a limestone quarryman in 1861 but an ag lab by 1869 with, possibly a father named Richard.

I'll go have a good look around.

Well, this is the only Margaret Davies of the correct age in Llanymynech on the 1841:

Carreghova, Llanymynech, Denbighshire
HO107/1401/24/7/5

Davies
David, 30, labourer
Mary, 30
Samuel, 6
Anne, 4
James 7
Margaret, 5
David, 3
John, 5 months

All b. county

I'm still looking for a likely Richard Ellis

Thanks so much for the 1841 census.  I've searched for months with no result. I'm sure that is the Margaret Davies I'm looking for.  She has returned to Carraghofa in 1881 census plus all her sons have the same names as her brothers and father.

I have an IGI for Richard Ellis born 1821 father Thomas. there seems to be a link with Hugh Lloyd - name on Richard Ellis death certificate.  Have traced Hugh Lloyd back to 1841 and there is a Richard Ellis in same place - township of Lloren.  Thought maybe a Lloyd had married an Ellis, but can't find any info to confirm.

Is that the Llansilin one - I've looked at that a few times and wondered about it. The Llansilin C of E registers 1812-1855 are on the IGI - also some from the non-conformist chapels.

The only one showing was bpt. 1828, father was Thomas. Mother - Mary

Thanks for reply. I have the IGI ref for Ricahrd Ellis christening 28 Oct 1821 Oswestry parents Thomas and Elizabeth Ellis.  That would agree with his age on death cert. but Llansilin seems more likely to me.  Could he be christened in 1821 and baptised in 1828? Still looking for his marriage certificate.  Should I try Denbighshire?

That part of Denbighshire was in the Oswestry Reg District at that time:

I'd be more inclined to try for Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire.

Thanks Gadget, I'll try a search in Montgomeryshire. Still looking for Richard Ellis and Margaret Davies in 1851 and hoping to get the correct marriage cert. If there is one!
