Wharrads (and variations) in Warwickshire
« on: Monday 26 October 09 16:16 UTC (UK) »

Is there anyone who has already done this research who can help me with looking at a problem please?  The name Wharrad and its earlier variations (Worod, Worad, Worrard, Whorrard, Wharwood, Whorwood, Warwod and Warwood to name but a few) has been heavily researched.  I remember a great uncle and his family were Mormons and I believe this is something to do with it.

I am looking at Charles Whorrad born 14 Nov 1824 in Berkeswell who married Selina Sarsons (1826 - 1899).  They were my 3x great grandparents.  Everything I can find myself suggests his father was Joseph Worod and his mother was Sophia Haynes, although the date of birth seems out on the 1841 census.  However there is also a suggestion  on various onine trees I've found that his father was in fact William Whorrard and his mother was Elizabeth Haynes.  The dob of the only William Wharwood I can find on the 1841 census is also out.

However if William IS correct there is further research back another 7 generations, some with exact dates which suggests some in depth research.  I suspect the researcher is correct and I may be looking at the wrong family in 1841 but the truth is I can't find another better one!  There is also the coincidence of Sophia and Elizabeth Haynes (I have Hales on some information but Sophia's father Thomas Haynes is also shown living with them in 1841 so this is more likeley to be correct).

Has anyone got up to date information on this please?  I must say I don't think Joseph is a "family" name whereas William definitely is.  Any help would be gratefully received.

hi

According to the igi

William Worad and Elizabeth Haynes married 1819 Berkswell.

Charles was christened 14/11/1824 Berkswell parents  William and Eliza.

Charles and Selina married 1845 St Bartholomew, Tardebigge, Worcestershire.

Have you considered  this entry for the 1841,  as Ipsley is near to Tardebigge where Charles and Selina married.

HO107/1124/6 folio 5 page 3
Address Crabbs Cross
Parish Ipsley.

Warrad
William 40, Elizabeth 40, Charles 15, Charlotte 14, William 10, Ann 9, Harriet 8, and Maryann 2.

Yes that's certainly worth thinking about - it look like a good start, doesn't it?.   I must have missed that variation of the spelling when I was checking through.

I'll see how that all stacks up.  Thanks very much.  I don't like to take previous research at face value without at least trying to satisfy myself it's right.  So those previous 7x generations might be good after all.  Interesting!
