What is the date?
« on: Monday 26 October 09 16:31 UTC (UK) »

This photograph is of the Brown side of my family. The woman looks like my grandmother, but the children are not correct. It is a postcard with 'The old hen and her chicks' on the reverse, but no other information.
Huh

Hi

Based on the lace collar and the hemline, I think I'd go for 1912-14.

Agree with Gadget & might even push it up to as late as 1916 if she's not that fashionable.
Although you say there's nothing on the back can you show it anyway?

Hi Jim

Was hoping you or China would come on  Smiley

It reminds me of those group photos that were taken for the man to take out with him in WW1  Undecided

Thanks for your help. I've attached the back of the postcard Jim as you asked. If it is a photo that may have been for family fighting in WWI I definitely don't know who the children are. The two on her knee could be her grandchildren, but the others are too old for her children, and she did not have grandchildren that age at that time.

Have you got any other photos of her or any of her children/grandchildren?

I do have a photo of her, but it is her 90th birthday. I only have photos of some of her children. Her sons were born in 1891, 1893, 1896, and her two daughters were born in 1899 and 1902. The only grandchildren who were born before and during WWI were two boys born in 1912 and 1917, and a girl born in 1917.
I have also been told by a relative whose grandmother was my grandmother's cousin. that her mother bore a striking resemblance to my grandmother.

The stamp box was used by K Ltd. from 1918 but I wouldn't push this past that date. The styles of Grandma & the children pretty much died out by the end of the decade.

Agree, but prior to this the stamp box had just a K in the corner.

Thanks everybody. We must assume that the photo was taken around the time of WWI, and could possibly be a photo that would have been taken by a soldier in the war. She did have two sons who were soldiers at that time, and one who was a policeman in Liverpool so it may well have been used for that purpose.
