Drummond family Johnstone by Lockerbie

Hi there

I wonder if anyone can help me?

I am trying to find out more about my GGGGgrandfather.

His name was Peter Drummond acc to the death record of my GGGgrandfather John who died at Keir Peter was from Moffat.

I have just today, found 2 siblings of John on Family Search, both born to Peter Drummond and Mary Drummond MN Buchanan which is correct.

I am currently spending a fortune on Scotland's People and getting nowhere.

I cannot find a birth, marriage or death for Peter Drummond in Dumfriesshire, even by widening the search.

Getting desperate now, any suggestions would be welcome.

You haven't given any details of years involved etc but are these the two children?

MARY DRUMMOND   Birth:  APR 1806   Johnstone By Lockerbie Dumfries   Father:  PETER DRUMMOND    Mother:  MARY BUCHANAN 

ELIZA DRUMMOND   Birth:  19 AUG 1809   Johnstone By Lockerbie Dumfries,

This is a possible 1841 entry for Mary (Buchanan)

1841 entries are restricted as follows:

Ages were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs from 16yrs onwards
Actual birthplace is not shown - just whether they were born in the county in which they were living
Relationship to other members of the same household is not shown

Greencroft Wynd Annan - both b Dumfries

Mary Drummond 55 widow
Edmund Hodgin 14
Annan ED 2 Page  15 Line 590

Many thanks for replying.

Yes they do appear to be the siblings of John.

On his death registration, it gives Peter Drummond deceased as father and mother Mary mn Buchanan deceased.

I was beginning to think I was reading it incorrectly as the writing was not very clear, but after finding the two sisters born to Peter and Mary, knew I was right.

John is said to have come from Moffat, and according to his death reg. at Barjarg, Keir In 1868 he was 84 so time of birth around 1784.

Mind you it does seem a long span between his birth and his sisters.

I just can't seem to find any records of Peter Drummond, but yes that could be his Widow you found.

No sorry, Mary the widow would have been much older than that. My maths is not too bright this evening!

If John was born around 1784, and Mary Buchanan was his mother, then she would have had to have been born approx 1764-1766 (ish) to also be the mother of Mary & Eliza

There is a 25yr gap between John and Eliza - not impossible I know as my own grandfather was born 24 yrs after his first born brother

What it does suggest is that there may have been other children in that gap

Thanks Carol, but sadly I have given up!

I can't find a marriage for Mary & Peter, and have tried wide dates and all counties.

Cannot find a birth for Peter in Dumfriesshire, or a death. Have tried deaths  in Dumfriesshire and  when I looked at other possible entries in other counties it does not give another  named person on the entries.

I have no way of knowing if he is not shown as being born or dying in Dumfriesshire. It is too wider an issue.

Will have to leave it at John and Jessie!!
