Was My Great Uncle My School Teacher?
« on: Monday 26 October 09 17:52 UTC (UK) »

Hi
I have been researching my family now for quite a long time and every now and then something out of the ordinary my happen or as you all know you may uncover a hidden family secret as i did, but thats another story, i was contacted by a distant cousin who was also researching our family and they emailed me some old family photos of my relatives who i had never met, in one of the photos was my grandfathers sister my great auntie Violet who i knew of but as i said i'd never met, in the photo with her was her husband, well, when i saw it i nearly fell over, my great Uncle Arthur was my old French teacher and he was my French teacher for three years and i never knew he was my uncle.
Would there be any way of looking at his work record? is it the kind of thing that is kept? he would have died now a long time ago but i don't know if the local authorities keep this sort of info and even if they did would it be accessable?
Kind Regards

Most school and staff records, where they exist, are usually subject to closure on the grounds of confidentiality - but it might be worth contacting your local county records office, just in case they have anything that you can consult.

Brilliant discovery - shame you didn't know earlier  Grin

There are some teachers records on Origins but not many.  May be worth a look though - I found my grandfather's early teaching history.

I didn't do that well in French i'm afraid but the irony is i wish i had paid more attention because in 1983 i travelled around France for a few months so it would have been handy to know the lingo.
