Searching for relative
« on: Monday 26 October 09 19:54 UTC (UK) »

I'm trying to discover the date of death for a John Henry Brassington.  He was born 1865 Cubberley, Gloucestershire. He married Eva Emily Price in 1890 and they had a child Nina, born 1896 and who died in 1901.  On the 1891 Census, John was landlord of an inn in Beckford, Gloucestershire.

Information welcom.

Hi Sandie

Eva Emily remarried in Cheltenham in 1901 by the look of things - March quarter, ref 6a 642.

Husband seems to be Edward John TRESEDER, a commercial traveller.

So we're looking for a death between 1891 and 1901 - but I don't see one immediately!

Kind regards, Arranroots  Wink

You're absolutely right, Eva did remarry - Edward Treseder.  I am assuming that John Brassington had died prior to this marriage but can find no trace.

Thanks so much for your interest and quick response.

Sigh - nearest I can find is Harry BRAZINGTON

He died in March quarter 1899 in Wheatenhurst reg district, aged 39.

Ref 6a 245

Wheatenhurst is the area south of Gloucester, including the eponymous village, Frampton on Severn, Moreton Valance etc.

Hi Sandie,

Arranroots beat me to it (which is no surprise) but my conclusions are the same.  A delicate question arises....are you sure he died?  He doesn't seem to show up on censuses after 1891 but neither does he appear to have died before Eva remarried.  Is there any possibility of divorce or could he just have walked out and left her?  I don't know if I'm right or not but somewhere in the back of my brain is something which tells me that after 7 years with no word a person could be assumed to be dead.

I have asked myself all the same questions but one thing's for sure, he will be dead by now!

This could be a sensitive issue for someone so I do need to tread carefully but I do know that it doesn't quite all add up.

Many thanks for your help and interest.

Hi Sandie,

Just another thought.  Is it possible he could have died abroad?

Good luck in your endeavours!
