Hallo, does anyone have any information on a chap called George Borrass or Borass or Borras? He was parish clerk of St Michael on the Mount and was born around 1793ish. His sister Elizabeth (c1793-1857) is my several greats grandmother and I am trying to find out about this family. Elizabeth says in the census returns that she was born in Lincoln but after her marriage she lived and died in Hull. Both she and George were baptised at the same time if the IGI for St Mary Magdalene in Lincoln refers to them... It says their parents were William and Susannah but I am only presuming these are the parents of George and Elizabeth. I know that George was the PC of St MotM because Elizabeth's obit in the Hull newspaper said so (a lucky break!) Any help or pointers or such would be a help. He might be in the census returns but I am not sure... and there might be info out there on his family and his parents Thanks Kirk PS FYI Elizabeth married John Hall a Bootcloser (but I don't know where or when). He was younger than her and they changed her age on the census but when she did they wrote she was 66 which means she was born in 1791 but it was not a family member who registered the death so that might be an error... ahh the confusions that abound when doing Family tree research!

A possible sibling was Thomas BORRAS who married Anne BAXTER in 1816. Anne (wid) then married John TAYLOR in 1822.
Note there was also John BURROWS bap 1791 of William and Susannah.
My marriage index has Willam BORRAS marrying Susanna HERTON in 1789 (no date) at St Peter in Eastgate.

I think this might be your George in 1841: Hilton Hill, St Michael, Lincoln - HO 107/651/12
George BORROWS, 45, Shoe M; born in Lincs Daniel BORROWS, 16, Cabinet M ap; born in Lincs Mary BORROWS, 14; born in Lincs James BORROWS, 10; born in Lincs William BORROWS, 9; born in Lincs
This particular chap appears in the 1851 census H0107/2105/520 and is listed as George BORRISS. Birthplace is listed as St Michael and age given as 50. In the same household is a daughter Susan HALL (married) and a granddaughter, Elizabeth HALL, aged 3 born St Michael, Lincoln.

Thanks Geoff and Rover, I didn't consider 'Borrows' as a possibility. I am interested in the Edward Hall son of John. Does it give his occupation or if he is from another parish? The reason I ask is that my Elizabeth Borrass married John Hall and had a son called Edward and I never could find out but of course it could well be a coincidence as there are plenty of Edward Hall around... Also is there any possible info about William and Susan who married in 1789? Kirk
