New & starting in Gairloch 1790's; advice?
« on: Monday 26 October 09 23:31 UTC (UK) »

Just starting to research my Scottish immigrant ancestors. Having done some tours of many resource sites, I am having a tough time of it with the early dates and lack of experience in this area of research, and despairing a bit.  Undecided

This is the info I've collected to date:

Ellen MacLeod, d/o Wiiliam, b. Gairloch abt. 1795 (d. Apr.26 1872, NS, Canada)
m. William Robertson, s/o William (b. abt. 1792, Scotland; d.May 12 1872 NS)  abt. 1816, Scotland.

Children:
Christy, b. 1817, Scotland
Margaret, b. 1818, Scotland
Henry, b. 1819 NS, Canada
Alexander, b. 1821 NS, Canada
Philip, b. 1823 NS, Canada
Catherine Ann, b.1825 NS, Canada
Daniel, b.1830 NS, Canada
Roderick, b.1833 NS, Canada

Ellen had at least one sibling, Christy Ann, b. abt 1798 Scotland. Possibly the MacLeods may be from Inverness-shire instead. William may be from Sterlingshire. Emigration from Scotland would seem to be abt. 1818-1819.

Any advice on what my next steps might be would be greatly appreciated. Grin
