Hello ,
Researching Anderson clan out of Edinburgh. William Anderson and Elizabeth (Millar) had William b. 9.7.1822, James b. 18.7.1824, Marie b. 31.5.1826, and Friderick b. 17.11.1828. All four were baptized St. Paul's Chapel, Carruber's Close, Edinburgh.
It is possible there was a bit of a time lapse, and this couple had more children starting 10 years later. Trying to find details on these later arrivals. One of these later children may have been John Anderson, who became a Trumpet-major in the RHA India. Particularly interested in his family line.
Would appreciate very much any offer of help.
thanks, Aweepeek in Canada

Hi Aweepeek
Have you viewed their marriage entry? There is a likely one (extracted) on the IGI
14th June 1819, Canongate Edinburgh.
There is another marriage of a William Anderson to Elizabeth Millar in Renfrew in 1835, and also in 1852 Perthshire. This could be the couples who are parents to the later children.
Have you traced the family in census records? That is usually the best way of finding out which children belong to which parents.
Do you know William's occupation?
Kirsty

Hi Kirsty,
Thanks for your reply. I did view that Marriage entry, and Elizabeth's parents were James Millar and Elizabeth Brown. (new north church parish) So, not a perfect fit. Although the date was appropriate as first child was born 1822.
I did have look through census records, but didn't find a match. Something odd happened to this couple, it is almost like they broke up and got back together at a later time and started having children again. Elizabeth, I think she was born abt. 1800. Having children late in life not completely unusual.
I did see the Renfrew couple with marriage in 1835. If it is them...they must of gotten back together and remarried?? I believe William was a gentleman servant but I will double check on that. Totally stumped here. It just occurred to me, maybe they were not married the first time around after all. I do have access to the first four children baptismal cert., but I have never heard of a marriage cert. or record of marriage.??I wonder.
thanks again, aweepeek

With such relatively common names it is quite possible that the renfrew couple are completely different people.
You may find it is not as easy to find records as they were members of a non-conformist church. http://www.osp.org.uk/index.php/about/history/
However it may be possible to obtain details of any records that do remain by writing to the church.
