So Richard of Queenhithe i don't think he would have actually lived at 20 Queenhithe as this seems to be the dock / quay / warehouse number from where he was trading, he must have lived elsewhere in the City, i doubt that far from his place of work, i would imagine he would have been quite affluent too. (the actual City of London is one square mile) - how do we find this out?

Toni, they're not actually my Gingers.  I just put them in my database because I thought there could be a link somewhere.  A bit like a one-name study, I guess.

My Gingers are of Great Gaddesden, Flamstead and Luton.

However, that does seem to be the same Ginger family of Leighton Buzzard, that I referred to earlier.

Blimey - thanks for all the extra links Toni. I thought the last lot was to keep me quiet but that latest batch means I wont see daylight for days  Grin

the only other way to do it is to stop looking for proof that Emma belongs to you and start looking for proof that she doesnt
i.e. find her elsewhere

are there any other marriages for an Emma Ginger in the right time fame etc etc

Excellent suggestion

The IGI has only one other Emma Ginger born c. 1815-1818
Emma Ginger B: 26.09.1815, Bp 23.08.1815 St Johns Westminster. The dau of William and Matilda.

The other ladies are all born after 1824 making them too young.

The above Emma is still living at home on the 1841, single and a governess. He father was a Bookpublisher. I have his will and lots about this family as I thought she was mine but it is VERY doubtful.

At least the Emma born 1816/7 Hounslow matches my lady in the 1851 census with year and place of birth, so that's a positive.

I'll read more about the Queenhithe Richard and see if there's any possibility of a connection but I thought we had ruled him out as he died before Emma was born - unless he could have been her grandfather - although he does appear to be too young.

Many thanks

Di

Hi Lesanne,

It sounds like re thatching was probably more fun than trying to dig up a few Ginger ancestors. Warn me next time and I'll swap places with you  Grin

Summary for any descendants and anyone interested:
(with apologies for any errors)

Started with -
From an 1851 census I had Emma Smith nee Ginger born Hounslow Middlesex aged 31.

The theory is that she's the daughter of Richard Ginger and Mary Martin of Heston/Harrow/Hounslow Middlesex (married 1796).

About 14 children were born to Richard and Mary from 1797 - 1821 - then Richard and Mary Ginger died 2 years later.
There were quite a few children listed as the children of Richard and Mary Ginger. Their births/bp's were listed as IGI submitted entries. Thanks to everyone we have established that these were "real" entries.

We've proven links between a few of the younger children - at least enough to know that they are most likely related and probably siblings. Nothing has been found re. the eldest children - maybe they all died  Huh

A few pages ago someone found a baptism for a Mary Martin, dau of Richard & Mary Martin Bp 21.03.1779 St Mary's Harrow - most likely the same lady who married Richard Ginger.

The new news is that I have now found that Richard Martin (bach) married Mary Obrian (sp) 8 June 1767 St Mary's Harrow, and Mary Martin was one of their children.

Richard Martin was Bp: 14.05.1739 St Mary, Harrow, the son of William & Sarah Martin. Richard Martin died 18.02.1821 St Mary's Harrow (aged 81) His wife Mary Martin nee OBrian died 1823, bur 30.04.1823 St Mary Harrow, aged 72.

I have also just sent an email to a descendant of the Martin family. From what I understand he has done a lot of work on the Martin tree so have my fingers crossed there.

I do hope that makes sense  Undecided - if not, feel free to ask for clarification.

Although I haven't proven beyond reasonable doubt that my Emma Ginger is the same lady born to Richard and Mary Ginger in Hounslow - I can't prove that she isn't the right lady either. At this stage I can only go with a "feeling", and a couple of facts, that say she's 90% mine   Grin

Many thanks to everyone who has helped along the way. I really appreciate the amount of time spent looking for answers.

As always - RootsChatters are the best  Grin

and a very special  Kiss for Toni (despite all the homework she's given me  Grin )

Di
(sorry - that wasn't meant to be a saga  Roll Eyes )

gosh is there anotehr one  Grin

Di, i dont know if Richard from Queenhithe is connected i think we can rukle him out as being your Richard however he may well be related or it just could be coincidence that he was in London at the same time as your Richard and old enough to be your Richards father and also have the same name,

if there is a proven connection to the Mr Ginger and Jane Hunt as it looks liek there may be - with the child being named Jane Hunt Ginger then Richard from Queenhithe is a red herring.

Ginger is not an awfully common surname and i would kepe him on file in case there is a connection back further cousins etc.
