Which Mary?
« on: Tuesday 27 October 09 17:23 UTC (UK) »

Mary Baumber married Joseph Burton at Pinchbeck 15th May 1815, and were a set of my 2Xgreat grandparents. But who was Mary? Was she the Mary Baumber b3.1.1786 at Wainfleet, daughter of Edward and Sarah, or the Mary Bamber b1.5.1788 at Wisbech Cambs, daughter of John and Elizabeth? Other family members on the Burton side have originated in the Wisbech area, which gives a slight leaning towards the Wisbech entry, but really it's a lottery. Any ideas welcomed. I could find no other likely candidates on the IGI

A Mary BAMBER married at Wainfleet 13 Aug 1807 to William CRAWFORD.

There was a Joseph and Mary BURTON, both 50, in Pinchbeck in 1841 ... both born "out of county".

I believe in 1851, they were in Surfleet-

Thanks Geoff; very helpful. The Burtons shown in Surfleet 1851 are definitely my ancestors. I would be very grateful if you could look at the census Pinchbeck 1841 to see who their grand daughter Mary Ann belonged to. I already have a Mary Ann, the daughter of Benjamin Burton and Ann Wade, one of Joseph's sons, but she was b 1849. The only other son I know of was Thomas b1815. Also the Surfleet link is intriguing since there was a gentry family Burton there at Surfleet prior to the civil war, I just wonder, my relatives seem to be somewhat scattered around the general area of South Lincs, Peterborough, and North Cambs, was it the result of dispossession after the war?

In 1841, in addition to Joe (a shepherd) and Mary were

Mary 20
Mary 1
both born in Lincs.

Perhaps this one http://tinyurl.com/yhvphqf
