LALLY - South Australia- mid 1800s
« on: Tuesday 27 October 09 20:11 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to find information on Michael LALLY who arrived at PORT ADELAIDE with his wife, (Bridget?) and child (John?) on 3rd May 1847 aboard the ship, "Theresa".

I am hoping he might be "my" Michael LALLY but need some more information on him before I can be sure. I am hoping some records may list his parents - the Michael I am looking for had parents, Martin and Eliza and came from Galway, Ireland.

I have no idea how long he lived in SOUTH AUSTRALIA or anything regarding his family in AUSTRALIA. In fact, I only became aware of his existence about a week ago. My 2x great- grandmother was his sister, Mary Ann and arrived in Sydney in 1849 with another sister, Margaret, as part of the Irish Orphan scheme set up by Lord Earl Grey.

If this particular Michael LALLY isn't "mine" I will have to keep digging further as I have been told that a brother named Michael arrived in AUSTRALIA (not sure what state) prior to the 2 sisters arriving in 1849.

I would be very grateful for any information that anyone can uncover.

Thank-you

A LALLY descendant ......is "searching for brothers and sisters of Bridget Connelly/Connolly who was born in June 1827 and married Michael Lally c.1845 in County Galway. They had a son John b c.1846 before emigrating to South Australia in 1847"

Thank-you very much, Paula. This info is great and will give me some more leads to follow.

I would really like to see what Michael's parents' names were to confirm if he is "my" Michael. With his death information, I will now apply for his death certificate and hopefully his parents' names might be given.

Many thanks,
Sandra

Hi Sandra
The South Australian death certificates at this time gave very little information - no parents names would be listed.  Is there a way you could track the marriage in Ireland? I have not done any research there - have been putting it off - so do not know how easy it is...
