Can any one help me with this one please. Is it possible to find any info on Jack. He was living in Oakland California in the 1920/1930's?. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Poppyann

Hi Lisa, Jack was baptised as John although he was called Jack. He was born in 1869 in Wales. Regards Poppyann

Is there any chance you might know his exact date of birth, or occupation, please?

There is this one:
California index for deaths
John J Daniels, born "other country" on 1 January 1869.  He died 3 April 1944, in Alameda.  (For reference: Oakland is in the County of Alameda and is also right across the estuary from the City of Alameda.)  I believe when the death place is mentioned, they are referring to the county, not the city.

John Daniels, born c1870, Wales
Living in Oakland, California in 1930; age at first marriage 26.  Wife Myrtle.  Myrtle was age 52, born in Illinois; age at first marriage 20.

John immigrated in 1902 and was a Porter, County Hospital.

Residence: 1125 East 21st (don't know if it is street or avenue; it may be street.)  Living in the same building as Oce? Harris and Oce's sister Blanch.  Both born California.

There's a possible entry for Myrtle on the California Death Index.  She was born 5 Jul. 1877 in Illinois and died 18 Feb. 1942 in Alameda.  Her father's surname was Clayburn.

In 1920
John Daniels was living in Seattle, King, Washington with his wife, Myrtle.

John was born c1870 in Wales (as were his parents) and was a Purser, Steamboat.  Unknown date of immigration.

Myrtle was age 42, born in Illinois, as were her parents.

They were lodgers at 314 Columbia Street.

No sign of children in 1920 or 1930.

Looking at the California index for deaths, it does appear that death place is in reference to counties, not cities.  So, if the above is your John, it was the County of Alameda (which includes the City of Oakland).

Thank you once again for all of the help you have given me. I appreciate it. As far as I know John was born between 1867 and 1869. The only info we have is his address in California from an old address book which gives his Oakland address. Poppyann
