howell and wootton Im stuck!!
« on: Wednesday 28 October 09 11:11 UTC (UK) »

I have just gone a little further back in my family tree and have got a little stuck.  I have discovered that my very distant grandparents were called Josiah Howell (occupation Hawker and widow)...and Hannah Wootton spinster. I have found their marriage took place at St James the Great church in Norton Canes England in 1820.  I have found Hannah on the 1851 cenus as a widow born in 1782 but cant find anything else about Josiah on the 1841 census.

I am assuming he was still alive in 1841 as on his daughter Frances  wedding certificate in 1846  he is now described as a miner. Can anyone help find out any more about Josiah please? When and where he was born...  did he have anymore children other than  daughter frances? Any information about his first marriage would help too infact anything would be great!

many thanks

Hello Dawn

I have marr.certs that do not state that father is deceased(although I know they are)
Could this be  baptism for Frances (names possibly mis-transcribed)

Frances Stowell 27 April 1823 at Norton Canes Staffs -parents Jessie +Hannah Stowells

I think this is a definite for Hannah

Hannah Wootten 29 Dec.1782 Norton Canes -parents Richard + Frances

I have parish register entry for frances which I will check.

The record you have for hannah is correct. I found it myself last night on family search.  I think frances surname could be craddock..married at st marys church stafford, but am not sure yet.

thanks for the help
