Military Records

Hi,
I've been searching for the Military records of a relative born in Durham in 1785 and who was in the 1st Regiment of the Foot Guard.  He had a daughter born in Spain in 1812 and so I'm assuming he was in the Peninsular Wars.  I'm unable to go to The National Archives so is it possible somehow to access these on line?  I seem to be going around in circles.

Thanks Judy for your fast reply.  I had been looking through The National Archives but hadn't been successful but since you sent me back there I have realized I needed to register--since I've done that I've gone a little bit further.
